What Is a Ductless Mini-Split?
As the name suggests, a ductless mini-split is a type of heating and cooling system that does not rely on ductwork to deliver conditioned air. Instead, it uses an outdoor condenser and an indoor air handler to heat and cool your home. The two units are connected by a conduit that houses the power cable, refrigerant tubing, and condensate drain. This allows you to control the temperature of each room or zone independently.

How Does a Ductless Mini-Split Work?
Like traditional HVAC systems, ductless mini-splits use refrigerant to absorb and transfer heat. However, instead of using a single indoor unit and a network of ducts to distribute conditioned air throughout your home, they use multiple indoor air handlers that are mounted on the wall or ceiling. The air handlers are connected to the outdoor unit by a conduit that houses the power cable, refrigerant tubing, and condensate drain.
When you turn on your ductless mini-split, the outdoor unit will draw in warm air from outside and transfer it to the refrigerant. The refrigerant will then absorb the heat and carry it to the indoor air handlers. The indoor air handlers will then use a fan to blow air over the refrigerant lines, which will heat the air. The heated air will then be distributed throughout your home via the air handlers.
